Copyrights give the original creator of the website the exclusive rights to own and distribute the copy of creative works.
Specifically, copyrights provide legal protection for any creative work such as in literature, art, music and education. Copyrights are specific to artists such as writers, bloggers, musicians, photographers and painters. All media sources such as newspapers, books, album songs, paintings, movies and even computer software or research papers are examples of copyrighted works.
Consequently, anyone who wishes to reproduce or modify the artist’s original work for commercial as well as non-commercial purposes must first seek permission from the copyright holder, and pay a fee.
That is why, this website is fully copyrighted. And I am the only copyright holder of all the content published at this website. It means that you cannot use my creations in any way you want. You are not allowed to do whatever you wish with my writings about business management, business education, business journalism and personal finance.
As this website is completely knowledge-based, my intellectual capital generates money for me and my family. These works are mine, belong to me and I have rights to all my articles. Check COPYRIGHT © INFORMATION for more details.
To learn more about why I believe websites need copyrights, here is a short Q&A session which explains my decision not to release my copyright on all published articles
Q: What is copyright to you?
A: Copyright is just the confirmation of ownership. Copyright to the author is like a deed to a house owner or a stock certificate to a shareholder. Nothing else.
Q: Why some other bloggers make their content uncopyrighted?
A: Many people think that copyrights were created by corporations and their corporate layers to protect own interests. Those people claim that big corporations, which have already cornered the market, want to keep on making big profits by restricting others. This means putting an end to small entrepreneurs through copyright policies, trademarks, lawsuits and anti-piracy campaigns before the small guys can even start. They also claim that the big guys want to prevent the small ones from developing ideas into something innovative that can endanger major corporations. These people are not fans of big corporations and claim that by limiting distribution of ideas, big fish from the corporate world put a stop to something good while it is still in its early development.
Q: Do you agree with people who make their content uncopyrighted?
A: I think it does not make any sense to fight against copyrights as it is only the confirmation of the creator’s right to his or her original work. If you create something, it belongs to you, so you have the right to own it.
Q: Will not releasing copyrights hurt Super Business Manager?
A: I do not think so. Fake stuff is never as good as the original stuff. Have you ever seen a fake furniture or car company operating globally which is as popular as IKEA or Audi? Of course not! Does fake cola taste as good as the real Coca-Cola? Of course not, fake cola sucks!!! The fake stuff that is not unique nor well-thought, hence will never change the world. Check High-Quality Products Are Magical to find out more what makes products outstanding.
Q: Why did you not decide to release your copyrights like other writers?
A: Simply because I am the owner of my all my articles. While I sometimes write about many ideas which are just universal truths that have existed for years and describe what we all have in common, I do it in my own unique way. Each of us is unique. Indeed, you can master on someone’s past work like a painting or book; you can replicate the past to perfection. But when it comes to creating something in the future, each of us will create unique things. You cannot clone the whole person (at least not yet or that I know of) which is full of individual thoughts, emotions, personality or past experiences. So, by copyrighting my website I am actually protecting my own unique way from taking it away from me.
Q: What if someone ‘copy-and-paste’ your content at another website to create a fake Super Business Manager?
A: I will be forever thankful to that person because the useful knowledge that I try to share will now be available in two places. But, if someone does hurt my website, intentionally or unintentionally, it only proves that there is still so much we can do to become good people.
Q: Will you consider it stealing?
A: Yes. While the website is for free for anybody around the world to read, please do not steal my stuff! Do not be a thief.
Q: But what if people start a similar website and write bad stuff about you there?
A: I cannot control what other people do in their free time. I just hope that they have something more productive to do rather than mocking me online. I have started this website for many different reasons such as providing business resources for better decision making to empower human beings. So, helping even one person will make me fulfilled. I pay a 100% attention to creating valuable content than chasing those who try to imitate me. If I chased everybody who does not like me, I would not have any time to write. And, that is not what I want to be doing with my time.
Q: Are you afraid that copycats will be more popular on Google, Yahoo, Bing, Baidu, etc. than the original Super Business Manager?
A: Search engines are smart, very smart. They penalize websites that have the exact duplicates. It works like this – unique high-quality content goes up in the page rank, while the fake low-quality content goes down. I personally do not care that much about how well-positioned my website is in Google, or how many readers I currently have. Even though most of my readers come to my website from search engines. I am not obsessed with Search Engine Optimization (SEO), neither I check website traffic statistics on daily or weekly basis.
Q: So, do I need to ask for your permission, if I want to use what has been published at SuperBusinessManager.com?
A: Yes, you have to ask for my permission to use anything from SuperBusinessManager.com. My website is a valuable asset to me and I protect it with copyrights just like I do with my other business property. No part of this website may be reproduced without my permission. All content on the website is copyrighted, including articles, other writings, images and artwork, music, audio, videos, podcasts, webinars, games, and all rights are reserved. It is my original work which development requires world-class education, strong mental faculty and many years of professional work experience. All content is protected under the Copyright Law the minute it goes live which means it is published for the first time. However, you are allowed to quote a sentence or a paragraph the most under the explicit condition that you refer back to SuperBusinessManager.com as the original source. You can do it in the following way using for example popular APA Style. Check here how to cite properly. And remember that Super Business Manager is the online-only website. I will also be grateful for spreading the word among your friends that this website exists and is really cool.
Q: You know, people must my visit your website to read your content. Are copyrights forcing customer loyalty?
A: First, I believe that you cannot buy loyalty. You could republish my articles on your website, but people will stop coming back after a while to read your stuff because you are not unique, nor you constantly publish something new. And, if your readers or customers finally find out that they are not reading your original writings, they will turn their backs on you. At the end of the day, the truth will come out, and people will be able to refer to the original source. We are all creative creatures, but each of us is unique. Secondly, if you want to read Seth Godin’s writing you need to visit his blog or buy his books. The same with McDonald’s burgers. If you want to taste the original BigMac, you need to visit one of the McDonald’s fast food restaurants. They keep the secret recipe secret. And my secret recipe remains in my brain and in my imagination. Nobody knows what I will be writing about tomorrow.
Q: Do you really think that copyrighted content is better than uncopyrighted?
A: Paid stuff is always better than free stuff. Paid content usually gives more value while things for free are never quite good. Because there is no free lunch in this world. You need to pay the proper price, if you want to get good stuff that adds value. Do not believe in anyone who is promising to give you good stuff for free. Nobody is able to sell high-quality stuff for free, or for very low prices, and survive in the long-term. It just does not happen! However, it is possible for businesses to lower prices temporarily to boost sales in the short-term. But, none of the companies is able operate profitably selling great products for low prices.
Summarizing, copyrights belong to Intangible Assets in Balance Sheet. Even though these identifiable items have no physical presence, they still have value in a business. They can give a firm a greater market value than the total value of its tangible assets less its liabilities. Hence, copyrights make up for what is known as the ‘intellectual capital’ of the firm.
