A Short Guide to Perfecting Your Brand

In our contemporary world, there are so many brands that suck! This article is meant to be a very short guide to perfection – perfecting your brand to help it unsuck. It intends to help companies and their managers to make and sell perfect products.

In my opinion, perfect products are well-made and balanced.

1. Well-made.

Any product performs its function well when it serves the right purpose.

If a shoemaker pays a lot of attention to every single detail when creating shoes from scratch for his customers, and uses only materials of the highest quality, then, the shoes will surely last for many years. He will put every effort to make all his customers fully satisfied. Consequently, there will be very few complaints and harsh comments (if any) from dissatisfied customers. Neither his customers will want to return their perfect pair of shoes. Why would somebody want to change something perfect? You have already been given the best product possible. And, nothing better exists. Well-executed work has nothing to be added to it or taken away.

It is so easy to create a few different pairs of shoes that are uncomfortable, or lack sense of taste. This is what many modern companies have been doing for years using the concept of design thinking. But this may result in failure – creation of something that nobody needs nor anybody likes.

2. Balanced.

Both the excess of something and deficiency of something destroy perfection. Adding too many colors or saving on the amount of leather used in the process of making footwear may not be helpful to create balance.

When it comes to human life, both too much or too little exercise will destroy one’s body and strength. Lifting heavy weights at the gym can hurt our muscles or even break our bones. Eating and drinking too much or too little can also have negative impact on our health, e.g. drinking too little water will cause dehydration and death. Lasting imbalance for a considerably long time exposing our lives to extremes kills the perfection.

Gaining everything that happens to us (both positive and negative events) in the right quantity will increase and preserve quality of our lives. The state of perfection can be achieved by skillfully maneuvering between providing our body, mind and soul with the right amount of positive experiences.

The actions that we do on daily basis, the thoughts that we have and the feelings that we experience should all happen at the right time, on the right grounds, towards the right people, for the right motive, and expressed in the right way. It is the way to achieve perfection to the best degree.

P.S. Personally, I adore companies which make practical balanced products of high quality that can be used for years. For example, some Japanese companies which produce minimalistic home furniture, clothes and natural cosmetics are at the top of the list of my favorite companies.

What is unique about those Japanese companies is that they believe that their products are good enough to sell themselves. So, they do not do mass advertising for example. Neither make their products ugly with placing oversized logos or overly colorful graphics.
