Walking

Walking is not dead.

Regular exercise is one of the most important things you can do, for your health and your mind. Walking is a great way to get moving while finding time to enjoy the outdoors.

Take a 10-15 minute walk each day at a certain time. If you already are a good walker, feel free to do 30-60 minutes.

If you already exercise, think of walking as a bonus — it is better to exercise once a day and walk again later (or before the exercise session) than to exercise once and sit all day. Plus, it is a great way to let go of stress and find solitude for good thinking.

How to start walking?

1. Pick a time to do a short walk.

2. Commit to only 10-15 minutes, or 30 if you are a regular walker.

3. Focus on just getting out the door — starting is the key.

4. Expand by 30-60 minutes a day.

How to enjoy walking more?

A good way to enjoy walking is to do it with someone else.

Find a friend or family member (your girlfriend or boyfriend, your spouse, a best friend, your sibling or mother or father, etc.) and commit to walking each day at a certain time. If you know that you are meeting someone to go walking, you will be more likely to show up, and you will have more fun too.

You can use this method for any of the habits in your life, for example to start running.
