6 Ways to Feel Better at Home

It does not matter whether you live in a very small studio apartment in the downtown or you own a two-story villa on suburbs of San Francisco; whether your place is an old family house or a brand-new 5-bedroom-3-bathroom townhouse; whether you live in the countryside or in the city center of New York.

Each of us has the right to feel better in our own house regardless of where and how we live. Check out a few simple ideas how to enjoy yourself more when spending time at home:

1. Clean and organize. There is nothing better than spending quiet evenings in a clean and refreshed home. Open windows often to let the right amount of fresh air into the rooms. Clean the dust not to inhale any pollutants. Clean up the cabinets to get rid of any dated stuff. Never leave dirty dishes in the sink overnight. Clean your sink! Maintain order and cleanliness in the refrigerator. Create enough comfortable space to move around. Avoid clutter.

2. Get rid of unnecessary stuff. Go to every room in your house or apartment, take a look around, and you will see plenty of old newspapers, empty boxes and wrappers, discarded office supplies. Think for a moment about how many of all these things you have used in the last 6 months. If something remained not used for months, you probably will not need it afterwards. Get rid of it.

3. Find your favorite spaces. If you like to spend hours in the kitchen, you can turn it into your own culinary empire. Find a place at home where you feel at ease, comfortable. It could be by the fireplace in the living room where you usually read books, or a shady spot in the garden which is perfect for early breakfast with nature.

4. Fill in your home with love. Do you remember when you were a kid the time when your grandmother cooked dinner for the whole family in the kitchen full of delicious scents? Your house should not be empty without the people you love, otherwise you will feel lonely. If you have a small family, or if you live in another city, invite friends or colleagues over for dinner.

5. Do not blindly follow fashions. Buying home furniture just because someone else on the TV told you to do so, is a big mistake. If you do not like the green color, do not buy green cabinets. Do you like the Scandinavian style? Bet on white designs. Do you like minimalism? Limit the number of items that you put in your living room. You are going to spend half of your life at home. Make sure that you feel good in your own house and that you like the furniture.

6. Invite naturePlace fresh flowers on the table (unless you are allergic). Not only you will add colors, but your passion and excitement will boost. Compose a picture from dried leaves and hang it on the wall instead of buying a random photograph from online shopping websites. Build an aquarium, if you have enough space and financial resources. Although owning the aquarium will add new responsibilities, for example, feeding the fish and cleaning the fish tank, the presence of water in a house is an incredible dose of life energy. In China for example, housing prices near bodies of water are very high. Water is life. And, one more thing, do not forget about getting lots of potted plants.

It is fine to browse the catalogs with home furniture, checking with other people what their homes look like, borrowing ideas and tweaking them to match with your personal preferences, because it does not cost you anything.

But most importantly, follow your own preferences in order to create spaces where you will feel the most comfortable in your home.
